COLLEGE ENROLLMENT TO INCREASE FALL OF 2009
Business owners in the arena and college sport gear sales may look forward to the projected increase in college student enrollment for fall 2009.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, "college enrollment was a projected 18.2 million in fall 2008, higher than in any previous year except 2007. College enrollment is expected to continue setting new records throughout the fall 2009 through fall 2017 period. Between fall 2007 and fall 2017, enrollment is expected to increase by 10 percent." This may not appear to be a large amount of financial gain for small business like L & W Specialty Shop Inc. but in many situations, it could increase sales of collegiate handbags and other sports gear.
The National Center reports indicated that traditionally, the college-age population of 18 to 24 years old rose 16 percent between 1997 and 2007. This adds up to an increase of 26 percent in college enrollment. "Between 1997 and 2007, the number of full-time students increased by 34 percent compared to a 15 percent increase in part-time students." We are excited about the male enrollment increase of 22 percent. This is an excellent opportunity to expand into Messenger bags, College Purse, Backpacks, Wallets and other collegiate items. Female enrollment is up 7% over males (a 29% increase.)
